POLICY ON MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP

SECTION 1 - PREAMBLE

This procedure is effective from Fall 2023 Semester.

SECTION 2 - PURPOSE

To acknowledge and encourage brilliant and top-performing students.

SECTION 3 - EXCEPTIONS

This policy does not cover students of post-graduate (Ph.D.) degree programs.

SECTION 4 - ELEGIBILITY

FOR BS DEGREE PROGRAMS

  1. The scholarship will be awarded to the students having passed the Intermediate / HSSC examinations as per the following criteria.

FOR MS/ M PHIL DEGREE PROGRAMS

  1. The scholarship will be awarded to the students having passed the BS/ Master/16 Years examinations as per the following criteria.

In case student completed his/her degree through semester system then student can provide the details marks certificate.

SECTION 5 - PROCEDURE

  1. The scholarship can be applied by the applicant along with an admission application at the admission counter.
  2. The admission office will forward the merit-based scholarship form (along with the required documents) to the Fee Section after the selection of the candidate.
  3. The Fee Section will issue the fee voucher to the applicants after receiving the required documents along with merit-based forms by the admission office.
  4. If the applicant’s Intermediate / HSSC result is awaited, the admission office will process the applicant’s documents on the basis of the part one result and the applicant should give an undertaking on merit-based form i.e. if he/she does not retain the required percentage as mentioned in the above criteria, the university shall reserves the rights to change the applicant scholarship percentage accordingly.
  5. The scholarship will be granted in a system after the applicants get registered as a student.
  6. Once approved, the Fee Section will notify the list of successful students.

SECTION 6 - RULES & REGULATION

  1. Merit-based scholarship will be granted after verification of submitted documents.
  2. Application for merit-based scholarship will not be processed in case the applicant does not submit the required documents. (Details are mentioned on the merit-based scholarship form).
  3. The scholarship will be granted on tuition fees only.
  4. The scholarship will be available in regular semesters i.e., “Fall” and “Spring “admissions only.
  5. Students can only be eligible for one scholarship at a time. (In case, a student is eligible for more than one scholarship at one time, he/she shall be awarded the highest percentage of all the available scholarships.)
  6. In case of the following circumstances, the University reserves the right to cancel the merit-based scholarship already granted to any student. The student would not be able to apply for a review of the decision.
    • Disciplinary issues/misconduct
    • Rustication
    • Expulsion
    • De-Registration
    • Fraudulent act
  7.  Any student or his/her parents/guardian can apply for discontinuation of merit-based scholarship by giving an application to OSA.

SECTION 7 – REVIEW CRITERIA

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA FOR BELOW 50% Scholarship.

The student falling under this criterion must maintain a minimum of 3.00 CGPA throughout their degree program.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA FOR 50% AND ABOVE

The student falling under this criterion must maintain a minimum of 3.50 CGPA throughout their degree program.

If a student is unable to maintain the required CGPA in any semester, the stipulated cuts will be applied as per the mentioned below table.

  1. The above is standard policy. However, student’s financial position will be the main determinant in case of his/her review by the financial assistance review committee.
  2. In case of semester freeze as well the CGPA is below as per the requirement in the previously enrolled semesters, the stipulated cuts will be applied.
  3. In case of semester freeze, the original financial assistance percentage can be continued on student’s request if his/her CGPA is above than required CGPA in previous enrolled semester.
  4. In case of degree transfer, on the student’s request, the granted financial assistance percentage can be shifted to the new degree program. However, in this case, the CGPA of the previously enrolled semester (of the previous degree) should be above required CGPA, otherwise stipulated cut will be applied.
  5. In case the student’s CGPA is improved as per the required CGPA or above in the next semester (except summer) after implementation of the stipulated cuts; his/her financial assistance percentage will be restored to the original. However, the following conditions need to be fulfilled.
    • The student has to apply before the final date.
    • The student’s previous application for financial assistance will be reviewed along with the new request.

EXCLUSIONS

  1. No cuts will be applied in the summer semester.
  2. Revised CGPA after summer will not be considered. i.e., CGPA of the spring semester has an effect on the fall semester and vice versa.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS

The UCHENAB places an emphasis on social responsibility, and as such, expects all scholarship holder students to fulfill their obligation by educating at least one student during their professional career. This obligation serves as a way for scholarship recipients to give back to their communities, and to ensure that the benefits of their education are shared with others.
