Program Overview
Bachelor of Studies in English is an Undergraduate English program offered by The University of Chenab. It gives students the ability of analytical reasoning and research abilities, which they need to succeed in any field of work. The BS (Hons) degree program in English covers the main literary genres, its historical periods, along with methods and approaches in the field of linguistics. To develop an understanding of various literary genres and forms of expression (poetry, prose, novels, drama, non-fiction), as well as linguistic and rhetorical skills through frequent reading and writing assignments and class discussions, the emphasis is placed on the comprehensiveness and depth of the subjects covered. The Language modules aim to provide an understanding of the historical, social, and psychological factors that shape the language used in everyday life, while the Literature modules are designed to foster interpretive skills applying to a wide range of genres and historical periods. The candidates have the freedom to pursue their individual interests in the last year of the degree program and can choose between the two disciplines, i.e. linguistics or literature.
We anticipate that this course of study, delivered by our incredibly passionate and skilled teachers, will develop in pupils a love for reading, writing and research. The program offers courses that enable students to identify and develop their research interests. Furthermore, along with managing three full-time programs, the department also supports all the allied departments of university offering courses in English.
Modules
Year one introduces key skills necessary for the advanced study of English Literature and Language. The students will study the historical developments of the language and literature in English, alongside approaches to textual analysis and interpretation. It also introduces key study skills including academic writing and independent learning.
Year two and year three are devoted to the major areas of English language studies, such as phonetics and phonology, language acquisition or psycholinguistics, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, etc., as well as the important periods of English literature, such as the medieval, Victorian, or contemporary eras.
The fourth year of the BS program will provide the students the freedom to select a specific discipline for specialization.

Teaching
Academic modules are taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and independent study. The students will study ten to twelve modules per year and most modules have 3 credit hours per week. The English department focuses on the blended learning environment to provide the students with an engaging learning experience. The department also holds various events and activities to further enhance learning.
The faculty of the Department of Languages is responsible for assigning supervisors for research projects, and this is done in accordance with the preferences of the students. Students are guided by their supervisors throughout, working together constantly to produce practical research.

Assessment
Tests, assignments, presentations, classroom activities, discussions, midterm exams, and final exams are all relied upon by the respective instructors to evaluate each module.
Duration
The minimum duration for completion of a full-time BS degree program is four years as per HEC requirements.
Entry Requirement
A minimum of 45% marks in Intermediate or equivalent are required to apply.
Careers
Holders of a BS (Hons) in English are entitled to pursue postgraduate degrees in the field of English literature and Linguistics, which enhances their abilities for jobs as content writers, news editors, lecturers/teachers who teach the subject at different levels, and many other positions.

Major expenses are for the Tuition fees. We charge the expenses in the very beginning and commencement of each semester. Moreover, you can choose between instalments as well as full fee payment.

Funding
As far as funding at postgraduate level is concerned, we grant scholarships but only to a few but very competent students. The scholarship opportunities provides by the external associations are also included in these funds.

In the Department of Languages, the concerned faculty is responsible for awarding a 4-year program of BS English. Given the scope of this degree program, in which the instruction medium is English, different types of literature styles and literature periods of English are completely read and understood with the help of different courses related to criticism and textual analysis, both the comparative and American literature are thoroughly offered to students so they can get a better understanding of various literatures and cultures. This program offers a vast prospect in which psychological, social, and biological viewpoint of the language are catered by the means of linguistic courses. Additionally, elective courses are offered from various disciplines whereby the students are equipped with the information, skills, and competencies necessary to conduct interdisciplinary academic research.
We also target to foster an aptitude for advanced learning and research among our students. For this, our faculty members dedicate themselves to impart collaborative and meticulous ambiance. Faculty areas of specialization are disparate and wide-ranging including studies in Applied Linguistics and Literature. MPhil English Literature and MPhil Applied Linguistics ensure students’ engagement with Reading and writing in various rhetorical contexts, interpreting and analyzing a broad array of texts and genres, developing and sustaining criticality, understanding various approaches to second language acquisition, Multiple historical and cultural contexts of language and literature, the terminology, methodology and theories of English Studies, and majorly focusing on the production of independent research.
In the next five years, we look forward to better integrating the department’s various programs by spotlighting 21st-Century Literary and Linguistic Studies. Our vision of literary studies centers on diversity, as indicated in our search priorities. Our classes and co-curricular programming will encourage students to see the difference the social sciences make in the various communities they engage and transit. We encourage faculty to join learning communities devoted to enhancing our pedagogy and making it more inclusive, we will further expand the pedagogical training and mentoring we offer to our graduate students.
