Master of Science in Software engineering at the University of Chenab is an advanced-level graduate research degree program for technically minded students who aim to conduct research-related activities in software engineering fundamentals.
Our Master’s degree is a full-time, two years degree program that provides a comprehensive knowledge of coursework as well as a research component. This advanced-level graduate research program emphasizes a rigorous foundation in technical tools and techniques necessary for providing creative solutions to complex computing problems. Through this course, our graduates will engage in active learning by balancing theoretical and applied knowledge of SE.
Our MS in Software Engineering will equip you with the expertise to develop software products and services through software engineering methods. The main objective is to develop fundamental knowledge, skills, and first-hand experience in software project management, reliability engineering, software testing, software measurements, and software risk management.
While studying software engineering, the opportunities for graduates to start their professional careers are extensive. There is a huge demand for software engineers in small and large corporations, industries, and in the fields of banking, education, and government. With specialization, you will have an option to pursue a career in research or continued studies towards a doctoral degree. It aims at strengthening the understanding of students for constructing computer programs including key technologies and skills needed for strong theoretical foundations and the practical ability to develop systems and products. This study will help you to understand and grasp a deep knowledge related to software assurance, Machine learning, cognitive neural networks, web-based system and information system development.
- Prepare students who can critically apply concepts, theories, and practices to provide creative solutions of complex computing problems.
- Prepare students who can define, plan, implement and test a medium-sized software project using appropriate software engineering processes, methods, and techniques.
- Prepare students to effectively communicate their ideas in written and electronic form and prepare them to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Prepare students with a theoretical software engineering background and applied research needed to enter a doctorate program in software engineering.
- Prepare students to join an appropriate and respectable level position in a computing-related field, and to maintain their professional skills in rapidly evolving field.
Before applying for a degree, you should first check that we recognize your undergraduate education qualification. This can include:
- Level 6 – Bachelor (Hons) [8-10 semesters with 124-140+ Credits Hours] in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer System Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Statistical Sciences, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Software Project Management or any relevant subject.
- Level 6 – MA/MSc (16 years) in relevant subject described above.

- Minimum 2.0/4.0 CGPA in semester system or 60% in annual system examination are required.
Admission Test:
- Student must pass a rigorous admission test as an eligibility condition for admission to MS programs, with a passing score of 50 %.
- Accept the GRE/HAT General/Equivalent tests, with a passing score of 50 %.

Registration in “MS Thesis – I” is allowed provided the student has
- Earned at least 18 credits
- Passed the “Research Methodology” course; AND
- CGPA is equal to or more than 2.5.

We use various methods of teachings through classroom activities including a combination of lectures, tutorials, lab sessions, seminars, workshops, online learning, and independent study. Program structure is comprised of a total number of 15-16 lectures and about 3 hours per week will be allocated for teaching that includes 58% practical and 42% theory. You will be guided all about the studies, mainly about time for preparing classes, completion of research projects, and reading of primary texts. Moreover, mode of study is English.
Mainly evaluation will be concluded by extensive monitoring of written examination and course work completion along with routine quizzes, individual assignments, and group tasks such as writing, research and presentation.
The least allocated duration for completion of MS degree program is about 2 years. And the maximum duration for completion on MS degree program is 4 years allocated by HEC.

For award of MSCS degree, a student must have:
With Thesis:
- Passed courses of 24 credit hours including core courses and research methodology course + 6 credit hours of MS Thesis.
- Obtained a CGPA of 2.5 or above.
Without Thesis:
- Passed courses totaling at least 30 credit hours, including three core courses
- Obtained a CGPA of 2.5 or above.
