The Bachelor of Science in physics is an undergraduate program that provides students with extensive training in the fundamentals of modern physics, fortifying that they have the foundation to pursue graduate study and careers in basic course work and later in the research. Those who opt to pursue physics; go on to study the discipline in much greater depth. Physics constitutes global studies and provides the intellectual bedrock of our technology. The Bachelor of Science in Physics aims to provide students with a broad overview of the modern understanding of physical laws, extensive practical lab experience, and research experience with leading research groups. The mission is fulfilled through coursework, a multitude of lab classes, and research opportunities.
BS Physics has a special emphasis on equipping the students with the needed tools for a successful academic and research career. By working one-on-one with our faculty and conducting laboratory research experience, the students will understand the most important concepts in physics, such as the evolution of the universe and the nature of subatomic particles. It will enable them to analyze and explain complex systems through quantitative and problem-solving skills.
The basic objective of the program is to provide the students with the latest developments associated with physics and its latest technologies. Moreover, it aims at helping the students to design and develop a strong background in the fundamentals of Physics and electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics. Because of the versatility of options provided to students, they will learn advanced Physics courses in the challenging fields of electrodynamics, optics, quantum mechanics, theoretical mechanics, thermodynamics, and solid-state physics.
The department of Physics is continuing to get information and gather innovative ideas; used to improve class teaching and professorial assignments as well as to motivate curriculum changes. The BS program offered in Physics is formulated to the Scheme of studies approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan to meet the national and international standards. Physics aims to examine and explore nature at its most fundamental level to figure out and apply the general laws that govern force and motion, matter and energy, space, and time. Physics studies systems ranging in size from the smallest elementary particles to the entire universe. Physics lies at the heart of the natural sciences. Almost any piece of modern scientific instrumentation is based on principles of optics, electronics, or nuclear physics and such apparatus usually has its origins in basic work done by physicists.
BS Physics explores waves, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics. Active involvement in research, both during the summer and school year, is strongly encouraged for all undergraduates. Students often receive academic credit for the physics work that they do inside the classroom and the labs.BS Physics, a four-year degree program, not only enables the students to scientifically understand and analyze the behavior of nature but orientate them with many interdisciplinary subjects such as physics with design studies, electrotechnology, systems and control engineering, energy and environmental studies, the physics of life, and nanotechnology.

The BS Physics program has designed modules to prepare students with the latest developments in the subject of physics and its associated technologies. Moreover, it aims at helping the students in years one and two to design and develop a strong background in fundamentals of physics such as quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, relativity, statistical mechanics, and electrodynamics. Due to the diversity of options available to students, they will learn advanced-level physics courses in the emerging fields of physics in the third year. We wish to prepare our students to conduct independent scientific and analytical investigations in the changing discipline and to develop critical and scientific thinking skills needed for a suitable career in academia and industry as well as in research in the final year.
The BS (Physics) degree program is offered by the Department of Physics as a full-time period of teaching. The main objectives of the program are to equip students with an understanding of fundamental concepts in physics, including classical mechanics and electromagnetism, thermodynamics and statistical physics, principles of waves and optics, and quantum mechanics. It will further help to apply knowledge and techniques from physics to solve problems in other physical sciences. This helps them identify problems for study, conduct independent studies and be effective members of collaborative teams. The four years modules are designed in such a way that enables students, to understand physical aspects of a problem, formulate a strategy for solution utilizing mathematical and computational methods, make appropriate approximations, and evaluate the correctness of their solution. The final stage is to develop research-based scientific thinking and to enhance professional skills for teaching, research, managerial positions in a wide range of professions in national and international organizations.
Academic modules are taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, online learning, and independent study. Number of modules studied vary per year and is the equivalent of a weekly two-three-hour lecture. You will be guided about study time preparing for classes, reading primary texts, and completing research projects.
The full-time BS Physics course is delivered interactively and on a practical basis to provide a useful learning experience. Auxiliary online materials are available and there will be various events and activities to further enhance the learning. The program requires computational physics and programming classes, writing and presentation class, and offers an electronic design lab class, as well as a sequence of mathematical methods classes. Connections of coursework material and technological and practical applications are emphasized through several innovative classes and freshman seminars. The department encourages the students to participate in the research projects, and provide them with possible facilities and guidance
All the modules are assessed by coursework, including individual assignments, case study analysis, projects, online quizzes, lab work, group work, and presentations.
The minimum duration for completion of a degree is four years. As allowed by HEC, it can be completed in a maximum period of seven years.
Before applying for a degree, you should first check that we recognize your higher secondary/tertiary education qualification. This can include:
- Pakistani Based Examinations: Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics or three years Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) in any discipline
- British System: GCE A Level with & Physics/Electronics and any of following subjects Further Mathematics/Pure Mathematics/Mathematics.
- International Baccalaureate (IB): The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (DP) from external Examining body Geneva, Switzerland with five subjects (including English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
- You still can be admitted if you have passed additional deficiency courses prescribed by the relevant faculty.
- Candidates without mathematics can be admitted provided that they must have to pass deficiency courses of Mathematics of 6 credit hours in first two semesters.
- 45% marks are required in all cases described above.
- Equivalence Certificate for A-Level/IB and other qualification holders from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC) Islamabad, Pakistan.
- Admission test administered by the university
