The Bachelor of Science Honors in Mathematics is an undergraduate specialization degree that aims at integrating and deepening the knowledge and prowess in mathematics. It further develops students’ capacity to conduct supervised research.
The Bachelor of Science Honors in Mathematics develops and articulates a real process to evaluate and understand the numerical and graphical information in the course and society at large. The expertise of the instructors always immaculate applications of mathematics in problem-solving, finance, probability, statistics, geometry, population growth. The Department of Mathematics offers programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in pure mathematics and applied mathematics.
A degree in mathematics provides an outstanding base on which to build a career in virtually any high technology field and provides a particularly absolute foundation for advanced study in engineering, finance, and science.
As a mathematics major, you will be thoroughly trained in classical mathematics, in addition to being exposed to ideas on the cutting edge of current research. Your training will include the use of the latest technological tools, and you will have access to the department’s computer labs, equipped with workstations and the latest mathematical software.
The Bachelor of Science Honors in Mathematics is a four-year program designed for students wishing to attain a thorough grounding for pure Mathematics at an advanced level, as an autonomous qualification.
Our degree program consists of core and optional modules. In core modules, you will study essential topics in algebra, analysis, and applied mathematics. Optional modules cover the entire range of mathematical sciences, including algebra, combinatorics, number theory, geometry, topology, pure and applied analysis, differential equations, and applications to physical, biological, and data sciences.
There are core modules in the first and second years of study. The third-year comprises optional modules. In the fourth year, the research activities are planned in modern areas of Mathematics to find solutions to current mathematical problems.
The Department of Mathematics focuses on the scientific and logical learning environment to provide the students with a zestful learning experience. Auxiliary online materials are available and there will be various events, research-based national and international seminars, and activities to further enhance the learning and logical reasoning. The chief purpose of The Department of mathematics is to provide a skilled and result-oriented ambiance. As a research student, your closest contact will be with your supervisor and the project instructor who will guide you.
In the fourth year, you meet your supervisor (a graduate student or final-year undergraduate) twice a week to discuss the course material and go over submitted work. In your second and third years, lecture modules are accompanied by weekly support classes. Your tutor provides a further layer of learning and pastoral sup.
The University’s policy on assessment for coursework programs is based on the following four principles:
- Assessment. Must encourage and. reinforce learning.
- Assessment. Must enable robust and fair. Judgments about student performance.
- Assessment. Practices must be fair and equitable to students and give them the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned.
- Assessment. Must maintain academic standards.
The minimum duration for completion of a degree is four years. As allowed by HEC, it can be completed in a maximum period of seven years.
Before applying for a degree, you should first check that we recognize your higher secondary/tertiary education qualification. This can include:
- Pakistani Based Examinations: Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent with Mathematics or three years Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) in any discipline
- British System: GCE A Level with any of following subjects Further Mathematics/Pure Mathematics/Mathematics.
- International Baccalaureate (IB): The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (DP) from external Examining body Geneva, Switzerland with five subjects (including Mathematics)
- You still can be admitted if you have passed additional deficiency courses prescribed by the relevant faculty.
- 45% marks are required in all cases described above.
- Equivalence Certificate for A-Level/IB and other qualification holders from Inter Board Committee of Chairman (IBCC) Islamabad, Pakistan.
- Admission test administered by the university.
The Department of Mathematics is established to train the students to become competent professionals and researchers by earning an M.Phil. Degree in Mathematics. Tuition Fee
Tuition fees cover the majority of the costs of your study, including teaching and assessment. Fees are charged at the start of each academic semester. If you pay your fees directly to the University, you can also choose to pay in instalments.
